Novelis is taking issue with an opinion piece in Wednesday’s Wall Street Journal which said it may cease construction on its $4.1 billion manufacturing plant in Bay Minette.

In fact, the company may expand the massive factory.

Stephen Moore, a senior economic adviser to President Donald’s Trump 2024 presidential campaign, wrote in the Journal that the president’s aluminum tariffs are having the opposite effect he intended - endangering instead of empowering American manufacturing.

Novelis, one of the world’s largest producers of aluminum, is building a massive plant in Bay Minette.

The factory will employ up to 1,000 people once it becomes operational, which is expected in the second half of 2026.

The company held hiring sessions beginning in July.
