MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police say at least twenty lives were put in danger when an attempted car theft ended with a shootout at a Raleigh apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

Investigators recovered nearly 30 shell casings and live rounds near the building at 2810 Summit Arbors Circle inside The Summit Apartments.

No one was hurt in the shooting, but the side of one building was peppered with bullets.

A tenant who lives in the building said his camera notified him of movement outside. He said when he peeked out the window and saw at least four or five males attempting to steal his 2016 Nissan.

The victim said he yelled at the suspects, and they began firing shots at him. The victim stated he returned fire with two handguns, a Glock 9mm and a Glock 40.
