MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The West Memphis School Board has approved a new instructional realignment plan that would move 6th graders from elementary to junior high schools and 9th graders from junior high to high schools.

In a release on Thursday on Facebook, the West Memphis School District stated the revised plan was approved by the board after receiving valuable input from the community and was designed to serve the district's students and prepare them for future success.

The plan includes transitioning 9th-grade students to the Academies of West Memphis in the fall of 2026. Sixth-grade students will move to the junior high schools in the fall of 2027.
