EDENTON, N.C. (WITN) - A site that worked nine years past its life expectancy is finally being revived.

“The treatment plant is 39 years old,” Edenton Mayor Hackney High says, “And we haven’t had any major upgrades since then. These things typically have a life of around 30 years, so it was long overdue.”

Edenton held a ribbon-cutting on Thursday, opening its new wastewater treatment plant with $11 million in additions and improvements that have been in the works for nearly a decade.

Residents told WITN they’re looking forward to what this means for their town.

“Edenton and its residents are getting an improvement, updating the systems, which will help our water quality and overall health of the town,” resident Steve Brabble says.
