NORFOLK, Va. — Nearly 200 dogs were found in serious neglect on a property in Tennessee this week. Local animal rescues here in Hampton Roads are stepping in to help.

Animal activists said the dogs were found with matted fur and parasites in a hoarding situation. 13News Now spoke with a handful of rescues and agencies, both in Giles County, Tennessee, where the dogs were found, and here in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

Both Norfolk and Virginia Beach's SPCA leaders shared they stepped in to help the second they got the call, saying it was a "disturbing" one.

“An intake of 200 dogs is certainly a crisis," said Kim Alboum, the director of field operations for Bissell Pet Foundation.
