(KRON) -- Park rangers recently found kittens that were abandoned at Penitencia Creek County Park in San Jose. Rangers helped round up and rescue the kittens, which will later be available for adoption through County of Santa Clara Animal Services.
Abandoning animals in county parks is illegal and can lead to severe consequences, park officials said Thursday. Domesticated animals lack the skills to survive on their own.
"Pets should be with people whenever possible. We encourage anyone facing a difficult decision about their animal to make a plan, and to first reach out within their own social networks—family, friends, social groups, or coworkers—to explore fostering or rehoming," county park officials wrote.
