NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) - The City of New Haven said it is taking action to combat the dangers of illegal dirt bikes and ATVs on city streets.
The New Haven Police Department said it will be destroying the illegal motorized vehicles it seizes.
City leaders called it an effort to make the streets safer and hold the drivers of the vehicles accountable.
Friday at 9:30 a.m., Mayor Justin Elicker, police Chief Karl Jacobson, and other municipal and state leaders planned to gather for a symbolic destruction of illegal street vehicles. It was set to take place at the New Haven Police Academy.
Earlier this year, legislation was signed into law that allows cities and towns to impose stronger penalties and enable them to destroy illegal dirt bikes and ATVs.
