HONOLULU (Island News) -- Keeping schoolchildren and others safe, remains a continuous pursuit on the islands.
The subject was addressed this week at the Honolulu Police Commission meeting
Interim HPD Chief Rade Vanic stated, "We'll be implementing School Resource Officers as a pilot."
(D) Rep. Darius Kila told Island News on Thursday, "We are now going to be the last county (in Hawaii) to adopt the program of School Resource Officers and it's exciting. Forever I think our public schools have been desperately asking for an increased presence of law enforcement, not just around the campus, on the campus, this is exactly what the School Resource Officer program is."
The Honolulu School Resource Officer Pilot program is set to start in November of this year.
