UK households have been urged to charge mobile phones before 9am on Saturday morning . The warning centres around the prospect of flooding, with the Met Office issuing yellow weather alerts for swathes of the country.

Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services. In a warning which takes effect at 9am tomorrow, the Met Office says spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

It adds there is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.
