A Salem man was sentenced Thursday to eight years in state prison for assaulting a family member in front of their child, prosecutors said.
Maykon Samarone Pimenta Miranda, 34, was also sentenced to two years probation after his release from prison, Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker’s office said.
Pimenta Miranda was found guilty on charges of assault and battery, witness intimidation, unarmed robbery, strangulation, and reckless endangerment of a child, prosecutors said.
On Aug. 28, 2023, Pimenta Miranda strangled and physically abused his wife because she provided police with evidence in another investigation, according to court documents.
