VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a woman at a motel who had protective orders against him and fleeing from police, according to authorities.
The incident happened on Monday at the Vernon Motel parking lot. Police saw a man and woman in a "heated altercation" while entering a pickup truck. Authorities said they feared the truck would flee, so an officer positioned himself at the motel exit with a flat tire device.
Police said the driver avoided the exit by climbing onto a nearby grassy embankment, and authorities then used spike strips to stop the vehicle.
The vehicle was allegedly uninsured, unregistered and displayed a misused license plate, police said.
