EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Evansville Police say they opened a theft investigation after someone stole around copper wire from CenterPoint Energy.

According to EPD, officers were called to a CenterPoint property on Bergdolt Road to investigate on Thursday.

A CenterPoint Energy official told police they noticed a lock had been cut on a fence about two weeks ago, and on Thursday morning, they noticed a hole had been cut in the fence.

According to the police report, approximately 200 pounds of copper wire were stolen.

The wire was reportedly worth about $3,000.

Earlier this month, five people were arrested in a separate case involving copper wire theft from CenterPoint, where the suspects reportedly went into the sewer to commit the crime.
