Growing up in Kansas as a young boy usually means that said boy plays a sport of some kind, or even multiple sports. Some go into football for the Friday Night Lights, some go into baseball, and some might even go into hockey. Local Calebh Shedd, however, is passionate and skilled in axe throwing.
Last weekend, the World Axe Throwing League, or WATL, held the U.S. Open in Billings, Mont. and Shedd flew out and competed. He would compete in both the big axe and amateur hatchet throwing. In big axe, he would place in the top-32, and in amateur hatchet, he would place top six.
Shedd entered the amateur hatchet competition as the third seed in the bracket and would start strong, beating the 35, 14, and 11-seeded players before facing off against two of the top competitors in hatchets.
