The Emporia High Spartans continued their slate of road games last night as they went down to Coffeyville to face off against the Golden Tornado. The Spartans weren’t swept away by the Tornado and earned a 50-0 win to get to 2-1 on the year.

This win had a couple of streaks broken as this is the first time since 2019 that the Spartans started 2-1. Another milestone is that this was the first Spartan shutout since 2019, when they shut out Seaman High 33-0. It is also back-to-back weeks of the Spartans scoring 50+ points, which hasn’t happened since 2017.

The team has a different feeling about them now, and it is warranted, given that they were on a 21-game losing streak. Head Coach Daniel Goodman explains what has changed since the preseason.
