MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Ward County Sheriff Bob Roed issued a statement on Friday, addressing the actions a deputy took last week regarding a severely injured dog in Minot.

The sheriff said around 4 a.m. on Sept. 10, deputies located a dog that had been struck on the roadway in the 2200 block of North Broadway.

Roed said deputies initially believed the dog was dead and asked Minot Police for assistance, who asked that the dog be moved to the side of the road for Animal Control to address later in the morning.

During the call, the deputies determined the dog was still alive but was “severely injured.” Roed said due to public safety, the location and not wanting to fire a gun in city limits, the senior deputy “made the decision to end the animal’s suffering by other means.”
