FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Safe Haven Baby Boxes recently facilitated a face-to-face infant surrender in Fort Wayne.
The surrender happened last month at DuPont Hospital after a mother reached out to the organization’s 24/7 National Emergency Hotline (1-866-99BABY1).
The organization says its team was able to provide the mother with emotional support as well as education and guidance on Indiana’s Safe Haven law, while coordinating with her and the hospital for the surrender.
“Our hotline exists for moments like this,” said Pam Stenzel, Safe Haven Baby Boxes’ National Hotline Director. “It was used exactly as intended— to guide a mother in crisis to a safe, legal, and loving surrender.”
Safe Haven Baby Boxes was founded by Monica Kelsey in 2017 to prevent infant abandonment by offering a
