NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — Voting in Hamilton County is staying right where it is, and some people are calling that a surprise.
A proposal that would let people vote at any polling place in the county died this week by just a single vote.
The silence was deafening at the Sept. 18 Hamilton County Election Board meeting. Democratic board member Greg Purvis could even be seen staring across the table, unsure what had just happened.
What happened was Republican Ray Adler voted against a proposal that would allow people to vote at any location in the county. The proposal needed unanimous support from the three-member board.
The plan had unanimous support from both the county commissioners and the council members, which are all Republican. It was also backed by Clerk Kathy Williams, a Republican. T
