ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - U.S. Steel has announced slab production will continue at Granite City Works.

Earlier this month, U.S. Steel announced plans to quit shipping steel slabs to the Metro East mill at the end of October, instead having a bigger plant do the work.

It was one of many changes after Japanese firm Nippon took control.

But the company has now reversed that decision, giving local workers more hope about their long-term future.

The mill is protected from closing until June 2027.
