There’s a special and meaningful event tomorrow at Gooseberry Mound Park in Moorhead from 1 to 4 p.m. On the International Day of Peace, there will be a fundraiser for the hundreds of people who fled the brutal war in Ukraine and ended up in North Dakota and Minnesota.

These Ukrainians badly need financial support. That’s because over the next few months, they will sadly be forced to quit their jobs here and leave the country.

A Ukrainian family living in Moorhead is Svitlana and her husband, Max, along with their two sons, 14-year-old Oleksandr and 7-year-old Demian. (They have asked that their last name not be used out of safety concerns.) The family was living in Kharkiv when Russia invaded Ukraine almost three years ago. They vividly remember hearing and seeing the Russian bombs.
