WINSLOW, Ariz. — It’s no secret that small-town newspapers are struggling to survive in the digital age.

Across the United States, hundreds of local papers have folded in recent years, leaving behind so-called “news deserts” where communities no longer have dedicated journalists covering city hall, school boards, or even the latest high school football game.

But in Winslow, a city best known for its Route 66 heritage and the famous Eagles lyric about “standing on a corner,” one paper is beating the odds thanks to its new owner—a 26-year-old publisher believed to be one of the only Gen Z newspaper owners in the country.
