ROCKLAND — This summer, OUT Maine received the full disbursement of what remained in the Jonathan Stein Fund’s monetary allocations when the fund decided to close. The total of the grant was over $139,000.

The Jonathan Stein Fund was established two decades ago with a quarter of a million dollars looking to be given over time to mission-driven organizations that could benefit most from the funding, especially conservation and climate-focused causes as well as LGBTQ+ organizations. Jon Stein, the fund’s late namesake and source, struggled with his identity throughout his lifetime and wanted his estate to support resources that did not exist when he was young.
