LOUISVILLE, Ky. — On exhibit in the Speed Art Museum, Friday was art by teens about gun violence, grief, and loss.

17-year-old Bahsan Ismail had a photograph of a flower on display, with two petals missing. Her description of the photo said, 'this image of a flower with two fallen petals symbolizes the pain of losing my two brothers, while the remaining petals reflect the strength and love that still hold my family together.'.

Over the span of three years, Ismail lost one brother to gun violence and another to an overdose. The flower is the same kind her brother used to help water.

"The grief hit me hard at some point, and I just really felt like life wasn't good anymore because I don't have an older representation," Ismail said.
