Oktoberfest celebrations are taking place upstate and downstate this weekend.
The Delaware Saengerbund's iconic Oktoberfest off Salem Church Road in Ogletown runs through Sept. 21.
The festivities, held rain or shine, take place on the grounds of the German-American Club founded in March 1853. The cost is $10.
The event, the largest in the state, was named Sept. 17 as one of the best Okotberfests in the nation, as part of USA TODAY's 10Best Reader's Choice Awards .
German specialties include grilled Bratwurst (pork sausage), Weisswurst (veal sausage), BBQ chicken, potato pancakes, pretzels, and “Rollmops,'' a marinated herring served with rye bread, as well as plum cakes.
