BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Texas A&M University Chancellor Glenn Hegar announced an acting university president on Friday.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. James Hallmark will take over for Gen. Mark Welsh as the Board of Regents searches for a permanent leader.

Hallmark has served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs since 2012, but his history with the Texas A&M system spans more than 30 years .

He began at the A&M System in 1991 as director of graduate studies in communication at West Texas A&M University. Hallmark worked his way up the ranks at West Texas A&M and was named the school’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2008.
