ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - On Saturday, September 20, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office reported an ongoing investigation into the death of an inmate who was being held at Rapides Parish Detention Center 1.
On September 19, at around 3:20 p.m., authorities at RPDC 1 said they discovered Anquinetta Owens, 42, unresponsive and not breathing.
RPSO said deputies and medical staff began to try and save Owens life by giving her cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED).
EMS then arrived and continued trying to revive Owens, and she regained a pulse. EMS then took her to a local hospital.
Despite these efforts, RPSO said Owens was pronounced dead a short while later.
Authorities said an investigation is ongoing and they are awaiting autopsy and toxi
