MOORHEAD — Entering Saturday, the Minnesota State Moorhead football team had lost four consecutive games to Wayne State dating back to 2018.
Dragons head coach Steve Laqua said earlier this week that their Achilles heel against the Wildcats has partly rested on the special teams unit, noting that "our special teams have bit us in the last few years."
On Saturday, it was another special teams blunder that ultimately cost MSUM its chance at a completing a furious comeback.
Down seven points with 4:01 remaining, the Dragons forced a Wayne State punt and were set to get the ball back with a chance to tie the game. MSUM sent pressure before McKale Pierson bumped into Wildcats punter Jacob Borrall, causing Borrall to go to the ground.
