SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — Saugerties High football coach Nick Bernard was optimistic that things would be a lot better this season with an infusion of some new talent and a deeper roster.

So far he’s right on the mark as the Sawyers remained unbeaten with a 35-6 Section 9 Class B victory over Liberty on Saturday Sept. 20, after staggering to a 3-6 finish in 2024.

Sophomore quarterback Michael Gramoglia, who missed part of last season with an injury, completed 7 of 9 passes for 100 yards and one TD against the Redhawks. He drove the Sawyers (2-0 Class B, 3-0 overall) right down the field on the opening possession of the sunny afternoon, hitting senior wide receiver Shyree Laney with a 9-yard touchdown toss for a 7-0 lead.
