PHOENIX — A 33-year-old man was hit and killed by a train in Phoenix on Saturday, according to officials with the city's police department.

The incident happened near 11th Avenue and Buchanan Street around 2 a.m. Saturday, police said.

An initial investigation revealed that Dominique Mayes was near the train when it moved a short distance. The train hit Mayes who suffered fatal injuries, police said.

An investigation into the death is ongoing, police said.
