NORMAN, Ok. ( WSFA ) - In a push-and-pull between an oppressive Oklahoma defense and a giddy Auburn offense, it was the Sooners that came out on top Saturday, defeating the Tigers 24-17 in their SEC opener.

Quarterback Jackson Arnold, who was peppered by boos from his former fans, threw for a total of 220 yards and ran for 1 touchdown, but could not overcome Oklahoma’s coordinated defense which targeted him from the onset.

First Half

A field goal put both teams onto the board for 3 points in the first quarter, where it looked like the score would stay until a 24-yard pass by QB John Mateer put Oklahoma ahead 10-3.

Arnold faced intense pressure from Oklahoma’s defensive line and was sacked seven times in the first half.
