NORMAN, Okla. — Auburn football was in position late to maintain an undefeated record and open SEC play with a win against No. 12 Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 20. But the mistakes it suffered throughout provided a final death blow in an eventual 24-17 defeat.
Trailing 22-17, Auburn had 4:53 to try and make something happen. Then a special teams penalty set them back on the ensuing kick return. Then another few sacks for the Oklahoma defense, and what became an eighth penalty against its offensive line, to boot.
It was an ugly affair for the Tigers, and the comeback was never to be, leaving Auburn with plenty to work on.
Here's the Montgomery Advertiser 's final grades for Auburn's first last.
