A driver on Interstate 5 in Shoreline fatally struck a pedestrian early Saturday.

The driver was headed south in an Acura MDX and took the Northwest 175th Street exit ramp, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol. The pedestrian, a 24-year-old man from Granite Falls, was on the left shoulder of the ramp and ran to the right shoulder as the Acura approached.

That’s when the collision happened, propelling the pedestrian forward and onto the ramp. Authorities were called shortly before 6 a.m.

The Granite Falls man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers determined the driver, 42, of Lake Stevens, was not at fault.

Investigators identified the Granite Falls man as a suspect in a wrong-way hit-and-run crash about 10 hours earlier, near the same exit.
