SAN CARLOS, AZ (AZFamily) — A group of kids are back with their mom after being rescued from a flash flood on Thursday.

Around 8:40 p.m., the San Carlos Apache Police Department received multiple calls of kids screaming in a wash during an active flash flood near Waco Road in the Gilson Wash District .

Officers found the five kids, ages 7 to 13, and their dog trapped on a small island in the rushing water. Fire crews were called out to the scene and were able to use newly purchased water rescue equipment for the first time.

Rescue crews guided the children out of the water to safety. None of the children were injured.
