MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The sky was the only thing that wept as the Marshall football Thundering Herd ended a streak of Murfreesboro madness on Saturday night with a 42-28 win over Middle Tennessee State at Johnny “Red” Floyd Stadium.
The game will still go down in the book of weird.
Marshall struck first with a touchdown drive before a lightning delay of 2 hours and 12 minutes caused the first quarter to take nearly three hours to complete.
“It was a long nine hours,” Marshall coach Tony Gibson said. “We’re out of peanut butter jelly sandwiches, crackers and all of those good things. Very proud of this football team and what we had to overcome tonight. Got down, and we finished the game 21-0 in the fourth quarter.”
The Herd bookended the game with 21 points in both the first and fourth
