Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan has revealed he reminded his charges of the 2023 grand final defeat to Collingwood to inspire their second-half comeback in the preliminary final on Saturday.
Back at the MCG against the Pies, Fagan said he told the playing group they’d never have redemption for that four-point heartbreak, despite coming back the next year and thumping Sydney to claim the premiership, until they had defeated the Victorian powerhouses in a final.
Trailing by 13 points at the main break, Brisbane launched an onslaught of goals in the third term, seven to two all told, to swing the game firmly in the visitors’ favour after Collingwood wiped out their fast start.
