Yuma County residents gathered for a vigil for Charlie Kirk on Friday, Sept. 19, in the Foothills Community Park. Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist was assassinated Sept. 10 while speaking at a Utah college.

At the event, Supervisor Jonathan Lines noted that Kirk “had set a good example that combined truth and love.”

Lines invited attendees to follow Kirk’s “example of being courageous and compassionate” and “honor Charlie’s legacy in standing for what is right and true to learn how to serve one another to pattern our lives after Jesus Christ, to love our families, our neighbors, our communities and to strengthen them so that faith and freedom can flourish.”

Lines said he first met Kirk in 2017. The activist visited Yuma County at least twice.
