Matthews was rushed to LA General Hospital - a Level 1 trauma center - the highest for these types of injuries - according to Fox's sideline reporter, Alexa Landestoy.
He did give a thumbs-up to the crowd while he was strapped to the backboard.
A spokesperson for Michigan State told
