MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — A 1-year-old child died in a rollover crash in Maplewood on Saturday evening.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a black Chevy Tahoe was traveling eastbound on Highway 36 to southbound Highway 61 just before 6:30 p.m. yesterday, when the driver lost control on the exit ramp while traveling at a high speed.

That caused the SUV to go off-road and roll into the ditch on the right side of the ramp, landing upside down. Law enforcement said the vehicle was submerged in 1 to 2 feet of water.

A 1-year-old boy was pulled out from underneath the vehicle, but authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

Two other children, aged five and six, a man, and a woman were in the vehicle at the moment of the crash. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
