PLAINVIEW, New York (WABC) -- Community members in Nassau County are gathering for a special dedication ceremony on Sunday in honor of an American Israeli soldier killed in Gaza.

The Town of Oyster Bay is dedicating a neighborhood park to Omer Neutra, a native of Plainview and graduate of the Schechter School of Long Island.

The ceremony took place at noon on Marilyn Boulevard and Phipps Lane in Plainview. A rabbi said a prayer while Neutra's family took some time to speak.

Neutra was originally believed to have been take hostage by Hamas, but the Israel Defense Forces later confirmed that he was killed during the October 7 attack. Neutra was 21 years old.
