CATHARINE, N.Y. (WENY) — Worshipers at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Catharine celebrated the church's 215th birthday on September 21. Many congregation members there say the church is a special place for them in their community.
"It's just a small community. We're really close-knit people in this community," said Karen Durphey. She was at the service with her friend Shirley Churches, who agreed with her.
Bagpipes rang out at the Four Corners of Catharine to help celebrate the special day. Saint John's has been standing in the same spot since 1810. Many generations later, the same families still come to worship there every Sunday Morning.
