TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police closed down West Alexis Road in west Toledo on Sunday evening after a collision between a motorcycle and a car.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. just west of Lewis Avenue.

According to police on the scene, witnesses saw 53-year-old Eric Sherman from Temperance driving his motorcycle at high rates of speed west on Alexis Road when he ran into a car being driven by a 66-year-old Temperance man who had slowed down to make a right hand turn.

Police say Sherman went down on the pavement where he slid for several hundred feet before coming to a stop.

Sherman was taken to the hospital with severe blunt force trauma.

Police believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

The driver of the car was uninjured.
