EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Evansville police officer is recovering following an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning.

According to a release from the Evansville Police Department , around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 21, officers found a stolen vehicle at a Rally's restaurant located at 1201 East Virginia Street in Evansville.

When officers approached the vehicle, police say two suspects immediately fled the scene. While the suspects were fleeing police, one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a gun and shot at officers. One officer was struck by the gunfire.

Police say officers returned fire, shooting the suspect. Both the officer and suspect were taken to local hospitals for medical treatment.
