FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A New York City Fire Department incident management team will assume control of the Garnet Fire on Monday morning as crews work toward full containment of the 60,000-acre fire in Fresno County.

The FDNY team, led by incident commander Kyle Demasters, includes 29 members and five additional specialists with wildland firefighting experience.

They will oversee the final stages of the operation, which now focuses on repairing fire lines and restoring damaged forest land.

"There's still a lot of work to be done," Demasters said. "At this point, we're going in to repair all of the containment work that's been done."

The East Coast team has been shadowing the current command staff for several days to prepare for the transition.
