Federal Communications Minister Anika Wells has issued a dire warning to Optus to expect “significant consequences” for a major outage to triple zero lines that left four people dead.

It comes as regulators and state premiers scorn the beleaguered telco for leaving them out of the loop and providing “inaccurate” information on the issue, which impacted more than 600 emergency calls.

Optus CEO Stephen Rue fronted the media on Friday night and announced that the nation’s second-largest telecommunications company had experienced a mammoth 13-hour outage on Thursday which impacted hundreds of triple zero calls in South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
