FOXBOROUGH — Sitting on the stage at the Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday, Mike Vrabel heard the Bill Parcells stories.

Robert Kraft, Ted Johnson and Willie McGinest regaled the crowd with tales of Parcells dealing with problems in his early days in New England with the sheer force of his considerable will and the intimidation of his acerbic personality.

In those days, players knew bad mistakes on Sunday meant a brutal practice on Monday.

After Sunday’s mistake-riddled 21-14 loss to the Steelers, channeling Parcells’ old-school methods had to be at least tempting to the first-year Patriots coach.

The game should have been a win.

If the Patriots’ ball security had been simply lousy or even just garden-variety bad, the franchise would have capped its Hall of Fame celebrat
