While Monday marks the first day of autumn, temperatures in Massachusetts could feel more like summer at the start of the week, according to National Weather Service forecasters.
Temperatures on Monday are expected to peak in the 70s, with growing humidity as the day goes on.
More warmth is forecast for Tuesday, with temperatures climbing to the low 80s in the Connecticut River Valley and Eastern Massachusetts. The rest of the state should see temperatures in the 70s, forecasters said.
That heat and moisture, combined with forcing from an approaching front, will create a "favorable environment for showers and thunderstorms to develop in," forecasters wrote. While the chances of severe weather are low, locally heavy downpours are possible.
The rain is expected to continue Tuesday night
