HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) - The community is expected to learn more about an Evansville police officer that was shot early Sunday morning.

Officials state it happened when officers discovered a stolen vehicle at a restaurant on Virginia Street.

Investigators say as officers approached the vehicle, two suspects tried to flee the scene. EPD says one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot one of the officers.

Police records identify that suspect as Jailani Chew. Police reportedly returned fire, hitting the suspect.

Both were taken to a local hospital. The officer is said to be in stable condition. Police also say a second suspect ran from the scene but was later taken into custody.
