Cindy Chavez, with Pantry 279 , expects hundreds of people to be lined up outside the food pantry on Wednesday, Sept. 24, for the second year of Duke Energy Cares, a special day at the Ellettsville pantry.

"Last year was the first year," Chavez said, adding Duke and Pantry 279 officials weren't sure if people would show up. Between 800 and 900 did. "The line went around the building last year, and it will again this year."

A normal day last year would bring about 120-150 people to the pantry, which amounts to feeding an average of 400-500 people. The Dukes Energy Cares event provided food and other items to about 1,500 individuals, Chavez said.
