The Bay Area of California was shaken by a magnitude 4.3 earthquake overnight, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, and although the experience is rare in Michigan, it's not unheard of.

The San Francisco area temblor struck just before 3 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, and set off phone alerts, the Geological Survey said . The epicenter was located less than 2 miles east of Berkeley, and the earthquake was felt in San Francisco and San Jose.

The earthquake struck in the vicinity of the Hayward fault line, which runs through several densely populated areas such as Oakland and Fremont. The San Francisco Fire Department said on X there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
