The remains of a mother of three were found a day after she was savagely attacked by a crocodile and days after another grisly attack killed a teenaged girl in India.

The woman, identified as Laxmi Dalei, 37, of Suniti village, was catching fish on Friday in the Gobari River near Bhitarkanika National Park under the Mahakalapada forest range in Odishi when she was dragged into the water by a crocodile, the New Indian Express reported.

One witness said villagers “raised an alarm and tried to save her,” to no avail.

“The crocodile emerged from nowhere and lunged at her,” Santanu Kumar Dalei, a forest range officer of Mahakalapada, told the outlet.

“Before she could react, it dragged her into the water.”
