BARTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A tractor-trailer fire temporarily closed Interstate 91 northbound in Barton on Monday morning.

State police say the closure was between exits 25 and 26.

Vermont DMV officials say shortly after 5:30 a.m., the truck driver pulled over when he spotted a flashing light and smoke coming from one of his axles.

He tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher, but the extinguisher didn’t last long enough to finish the job, so he called 911 for help.

The driver was not injured, but the truck had to be towed away.
